June 30, 2018—The Cover Crop Field Day will include a discussion on common cover crops in Hawai‘i, soil health benefits associated with cover crop use, and cover crops and insect management. Drs. Ted Radovich, Koon-Hui Wang, and Amjad Ahmad from the University of Hawai‘i’s College of Agriculture and Human Resources will lead discussions in the morning and early afternoon, followed by on-farm activities at The Kohala Center’s Demonstration Farm including cover crop field showings, soil sampling, and soil health testing. Amy Koch, assistant director for soil science at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, will provide an overview of NRCS cover crop resources and services for Hawai‘i’s farmers.
Saturday, June 30, 2018—Learn practical tips and key steps for organizing and maintaining a record keeping system for your agribusiness, including seed (bean)-to-sale tracking and developing standard operating procedures. Maile Woodhall, agricultural outreach specialist at The Kohala Center, will be the keynote speaker.
Tuesday, July 17, 2018—Discover loan, grant, and financial incentive programs for your business, and learn best practices for applying for USDA funding from Megan Blazak, agricultural business development specialist at The Kohala Center.

Other service activities may include outplanting monitoring and maintenance, invasive species control, and native species seed collection.
August 10–11, 2018—For the second year, the Hawai‘i Island New Farmer and Rancher Expo brings together emerging producers with non-profit, private, and government resource organizations, as well as area buyers and experienced farmers.
The goal of the Expo is to provide participants with an understanding of all aspects involved in establishing a viable commercial farm business on Hawai‘i Island.
August 13–16, 2018—This QuickBooks workshop is intended for businesses actively producing agricultural crops for commercial sales. It is best suited for those who want to increase their accounting skills by using QuickBooks software for farm financial recordkeeping.
September 1, 2018—Start a successful year in your school learning garden! Join facilitators Amanda Rieux and Wendy Baker and learn how to establish garden protocol and routines, set up key garden systems with tools and compost, plan for schedules and curriculum integration. We will share and learn best practices for various school garden environments and grade levels.
September 8, 2018—Hawaiʻi Island Vog Network: A Yearlong Professional Development Program for Middle and High School Educators
This yearlong course is limited to 6th- through 12th-grade teachers on a first-come, first-served basis. Please complete the application form no later than July 30, 2018 so we may learn more about you. You will receive notice of acceptance by August 7, 2018.
