June 30, 2018—The Cover Crop Field Day will include a discussion on common cover crops in Hawai‘i, soil health benefits associated with cover crop use, and cover crops and insect management. Drs. Ted Radovich, Koon-Hui Wang, and Amjad Ahmad from the University of Hawai‘i’s College of Agriculture and Human Resources will lead discussions in the morning and early afternoon, followed by on-farm activities at The Kohala Center’s Demonstration Farm including cover crop field showings, soil sampling, and soil health testing. Amy Koch, assistant director for soil science at the U.S. Department of Tropical Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, will provide an overview of NRCS cover crop resources and services for Hawai‘i’s farmers.
NOTE: Morning session will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at North Hawai‘i Education and Research Center, 45-539 Plumeria St. Afternoon session will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Kohala Center’s Demonstration Farm, 45-434 Lehua St. Parking at the Demonstration Farm is limited, carpooling is encouraged.
