September 8, 2018—Hawaiʻi Island Vog Network: A Yearlong Professional Development Program for Middle and High School Educators
This yearlong course is limited to 6th- through 12th-grade teachers on a first-come, first-served basis. Please complete the application form no later than August 15, 2018 so we may learn more about you. You will receive notice of acceptance by August 20, 2018. The yearlong school program includes the following:
- Technical and mentoring support for sensor installation, maintenance, class research projects, and data analysis
- Lesson planning support
- Vog real-time data web page access
- Year-end Best Practices Session for teachers
- Review and support with PDE3 credit portfolio submissions
The Kickoff Training is a one-day workshop Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Waimea Middle School on Hawai‘i Island. Attendance is free and participants should bring a brown-bag lunch. There will be two parts to this workshop:
- How to teach chemistry of all matter (vog included) using LEGO bricks as atoms, and aligning with NGSS standards.
- An introduction to the air quality sensors and how to use them as teaching tools with your students.
Please review the Hawai‘i Island Vog Network web page for more information about the program before completing this application. Upon acceptance into the program, you will be required to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that you will participate in all sections of this yearlong program.
