In addition to the Exchange, there will be a number of exciting activities and opportunities to learn more about island backyard gardening and food production. There will be workshops on Chickens, Beekeeping, Kalo, as well as childrens' activities and a localvore potluck at noon. An added bonus is a native plant sale and a fruit tree giveaway.

November 7, 2015—Dr. Albie Miles from University of Hawai‘i–West O‘ahu will discuss the history of agriculture and the environmental quality and human health risks associated with modern, industrial farming practices. His presentation will detail the role of the science of ecology and the management of biodiversity in developing sustainable farming and discuss some of the key social, economic, and political obstacles to sustainable food and farming systems in Hawai‘i.

November 15, 2015—Island meat producers are invited to tour our Mobile Slaughter Unit, learn more about Hawai‘i Island Meat Cooperative (HIMC), and apply for membership! Consumers are also welcome to attend to learn about HIMC and when and where to find our products. HIMC board members will be providing ‘ono sliders made from their own meats! Attendees are welcome (but not required) to bring a side, salad, dessert, or drink to share. Hope to see you there!
