December 19, 2015—Our last volunteer day of 2015 will be in one of our favorite places, and provide an opportunity to plant some of Kohala's less common native species. Our State DOFAW partners have collected and propagated rare native plants, and we are helping out by returning these plants to this sanctuary in their home range.

February 26, 2016—The 2016 Nāhelehele Dryland Forest Symposium will highlight dryland forest ecology and restoration efforts in Hawai‘i. The symposium will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, February 26, at the Courtyard King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel in Kailua-Kona.
February 27, 2016—The Cover Crop Field Day will include a discussion on common cover crops used in Hawai‘i, seeding rates, and incorporation techniques. Dr. Ted Radovich, associate specialist at the University of Hawaii’s College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources will lead a classroom discussion in the morning, followed by a tour of a winter field trial at The Kohala Center’s Demonstration Farm and one other farm (to be determined) in Hāmākua. Amy Koch, assistant director for soil science at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, will conduct soil health demonstrations.

March 15, 2016—Farm Work Hawai‘i is sponsoring a FREE event with refreshments, free gifts and door prizes along with information about Managing Your Farming Risks. Come learn about USDA-funded crop insurance as special guest Nicole Gueck from Agrilogic will review policies from USDA Risk Management Agency for coffee, mac nuts, and bananas, and give details on Whole Farm Revenue Protection, a policy for diversified farms.
