The HISGN will be offering a series of Garden-Based Nutrition Education Workshops for School Garden and Class Teachers in both East and West Hawai‘i. The workshops will focus on the "Foundations of Nutritional Education" especially for Garden Teachers and Class Teachers who work in school gardens. For more information, go to the Web site. The Presenter will be Vivienne Aronowitz. Vivienne holds a Masters of Public Health and is a Registered Dietitian and a Certified Diabetes Educator. She is the Nutritionist for all Kaiser Permanente Clinics on Hawai‘i Island.

hat is happening to honeybees? That is the question facing our island, our state and a significant portion of the planet as bee colonies are weakening and dwindling. Join us as we learn about what we can do to help our important pollinators. Critically acclaimed film Queen of the Sun: What are the Bees Telling Us?, a panel discussion with local bee experts and honey tasting.

First grade teacher Ting Ortiz will share some of the many ways she incorporates curriculum into the school learning garden. Ting leads an after school garden club which is very popular with students. Discussion followed by a tour of the Kaumana Elementary student learning gardens. Refreshments provided as well as free plants and seeds to share.

Learn the basics of backyard composting and how to create and maintain a composting worm bin. This two hour workshop is a great way to learn how to divert kitchen and yard waste from our landfills and turn them into a nutrient rich soil amendment.
