Kohala Nānā‘āina Data Technician

The Kohala nānāʻāina data technician is responsible for developing an intimate understanding of the needs of ʻāina from ma uka to ma kai in the moku of Kohala. The nānāʻāina technician is proficient in data collection and analysis, Geographic Information System (GIS), and Global Positioning System (GPS); possesses a working knowledge of conducting vegetation surveys and water quality monitoring in forest settings; and has experience engaging in forest preservation or restoration field work in Hawaiʻi.

Through our partnership with the County of Hawai‘i, The Kohala Center provides education to Kahalu‘u Bay and Beach Park visitors on respectful behaviors to protect the bay’s sensitive natural and cultural resources. A Visitor Parking Fee program provides revenues to support ongoing stewardship, outreach, and education. Aloha Ambassadors work with community members and visitors to educate and assist them with the parking program, and also provide information about the important ecological and cultural landscape of Kahaluʻu Bay and the surrounding area and how to enjoy the bay while also stewarding it.
