A Pde3 Course in 2 Sections has been developed for the Kū ‘Āina Pā Cohort. If you are a public or charter teacher you can take advantage of this opportunity.
Session #1 – June 9-December 1, 2013 - 3 Credits
Session #2 - December 1, 2013 - June 13, 2014 - 3 Credits
Cost per Session $100 for DOE Pde3 Credits

Session #1 - June 9, 2013 to December 1, 2013 (39.5 Total Contact Hours)
Portfolio Requirements - Portfolio due on or before December 1, 2013
1. Summer Intensive June 9-14, 2013 (39.5 Total Contact Hours)
2. Attend the Fall Workshop September 28-29, 2013 (11 Contact hours)
3. Visit a School Garden and complete the Reflection Template - 2 Hours
4. One lesson with mentor observation and evaluation rubric -2 hours
*5. Create three exemplary lessons with 2 examples each of exemplary student work (total of 6 examples) and an assessment and evaluation of student and teacher performance. Show how the following course themes are applied and implemented.
a. Classroom Management Skills
b. Place-Based/Cultural Practices
c. STEM Integration
6. Monthly reflection log entries
7. Finish all reading assignments for each class session and participation in all class discussions, hands-on work, and games
*8. An initial design or plan for a School Learning Garden using Action Research methodology
*9. An overall review of the value of this experience and any challenges you encountered and how you overcame those challenges
10. Portfolio for Session #1 will be due December 1, 2013
11. Total Contact Class Hours: 54.5

Session #2 - December 1, 2013 to June 13, 2014
Portfolio Requirements - Portfolio due on or before June 13, 2014
1. Attend Fall 2-day Workshop (September 28-29, 2013) 11 Hours
2. Attend Winter 2-day Workshop (January 18-19, 2014) 11 Hours
3. Attend Spring 2-day Workshop (March 22-23, 2014) 11 Hours
4. Two school garden visits with reflection template – 4 Hours
5. One lesson with mentor observation and evaluation rubric (2 hours)
*6. Create 3 exemplary lessons using logic model in teacher syllabus and 2 exemplary student work samples per lesson (total 6 student work samples) and an assessment and evaluation of student and teacher performance. Show how the following course themes are applied and implemented into your lessons:
a. Classroom Management Skills
b. Place-Based/Cultural Practices
c. STEM Integration
7. Continue monthly reflection log entries
8. Finish all reading assignments for each class session and participation in all class discussions, hands-on work, and games
*9. Submit a revised plan for your school-learning garden that will include ways for sustaining the garden into the future using Action Research methodology
*10. Post your three exemplary lessons on the chosen website
*11. An overall evaluation of this experience, what your challenges were and how you overcame them
*12. A statement about your future goals and directions
13. Presentation and assessment of year’s work. June 13, 2014 (3 hours)
14. Portfolio for Session #2 will be due on June 13, 2014
