Kū ‘Āina Pā Guiding Principles

The Principles that will guide this cohort and curriculum approach will come from three main areas of thought and practice in our educational and cultural communities: Hawaiian Values, Education for Sustainability Core Content Standards and Performance Indicators, and General Learner Outcomes GLOs. These Guiding Principles will be overlaid and connected with HCPS III Standards to form the basis of our curriculum and presentations.

General Learner Outcomes (GLOs)

General Learner Outcomes (GLOs) are the over-arching goals of standards-based learning for all students in all grade levels in Hawai‘i. “The GLOs should be an integral part of the school culture as they do not exist in isolation.” From The Hawaii State Department of Education Web site.

GLOs help to establish an environment of change by nurturing hands-on place-based learning.

The six General Learner Outcomes are:
Self-directed Learner: The ability to be responsible for one's own learning
Community Contributor: The understanding that it is essential for human beings to work together
Complex Thinker: The ability to demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving
Quality Producer: The ability to recognize and produce quality performance and quality products
Effective Communicator: The ability to communicate effectively
Effective and Ethical User of Technology: The ability to use a variety of technologies effectively and ethically
