Participants will be assisted in finding a grant opportunity to match their needs and begin the application process in class. Please bring a flash drive to save your work and a lunch. We will also be able to tour this state of the art facility with Ming Wei. “The Energy Lab at Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy is the first of its kind in the world—a facility for students by students that will connect these young people and their schools, allowing them to collaborate and develop sustainable living.”

HAAS students will present their video of Garden Chef activities and host a cooking demonstration and garden tour. If you haven’t visited HAAS yet, this is an excellent opportunity to do so.

This presentation is for teachers, parents, and community on the value of gardening as an academic subject. The presentation will be followed by a worm hands-on activity where participants can collect worm castings to take home to use in their own gardens or to start their own worm farm. Books will also be for sale. Dilafruz Williams was President of the Portland Public School's BOE. She founded Portland Public Environmental Education Middle School and the Learning Gardens Program at Portland State University.

Food safety is on everyone’s mind today. The HISGN has published a new poster for school gardens to simplify the rules. Please Join Nancy Redfeather at her farm in Honalo for a discussion of food safety guidelines and receive a free poster for your school garden.

Cooking contest and demonstrations, ‘ulu trees for sale, cultural uses, cultivation and care of ‘ulu trees, quilting, poi pounding, Kapa making, keiki crafts, food (featuring ‘ulu) and music all day.

Garden educator Clare Loprinzi will share her successful strategies for teaching students how to grow and prepare traditional Hawaiian Foods. A garden tour and cooking demonstration will be included.
