Thursday, July 24, 2014 - Cooking delicious, healthy meals based on whole foods while staying within budget is a big task, and we’d like to help!
Eighteen months ago, Kona Pacific switched over to all-scratch cooking, using whole foods and no added refined flours or sugars, while reducing food costs 30%. We did it with the help of Carleton Gillenwater, expert food service culinary planner and chef. Carleton will present a workshop for culinary staff, presenting simple steps and a roadmap so that every school can make the switch.

These special events to promote healthy eating will take place from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 14 and Saturday, July 12 at the Hilo Farmers Market, and on Sunday, June 22 and Sunday, July 27 at the Maku‘u Farmers Market in Puna.

September 13, 2014—We started calling this narrow valley in the middle elevations of Waiakamali Stream “Magic” quite a few years ago, because this ecosystem represents a unique assemblage of native plants seen few places on Kohala. In a 7-minute walk from the truck up above, you descend into a native wet forest, with a flowing stream, and birds singing. It is beautiful.
