Waiwai Weekend #2: Supporting Food Security in Hawai‘i
(Kohala Mountain, Hawai‘i Island)

August 20, 2016 @ 2:30 pm - 6:30 pm

- $75

waiwaiweekendAugust 20, 2016—Our second Waiwai Weekend will focus on one of our favorite subjects—food! We invite you to join us and our special guests Nancy Redfeather, Jerry Konanui, and Dr. Albie Miles for a conversation about how we can all contribute to greater food security and support local food production in Hawai‘i.

Did you know that an estimated 85% of all of the food available in Hawai‘i’s supermarkets and restaurants at any given time is imported from 2,300 miles away or more? We must find ways to grow and produce more of our food and support our local farmers and food producers. We’ll explore specific steps and ideas we can all take to move Hawai‘i toward greater local food security, while enjoying sumptuous canoe-crop pūpū by Pau and live music from Kevin Kealoha and Kunia Galdeira.

Tickets are $75/person, which includes campus tours, heavy canoe-crop pūpū by Pau, two drink tickets, T-shirt, and makana (gifts).
