September 28, 2019—Join us to learn how to teach about weather and climate using both traditional Hawaiian and Western scientific practices! Through a partnership between The Kohala Center and the Massachusettes Institute of Technology (MIT), ongoing support will be available to you and/or your school/organization from scientists and cultural practitioners through April 2020.
We welcome all educators (formal and informal) that have an interest in integrating weather, kilo, and climate science into their education and outreach activities.
Program Details:
- Two day-long workshops: September 28, 2019 (Hilo) and TBD at the Mauna Loa Observatory at the end of January 2020
- Presenters include representatives from National Weather Service, Makaliʻi voyagers, MIT, and Mauna Loa Observatory
- Support from experts in developing and delivering ʻāina-based learning experiences around weather and climate science
- Networking with and learning from others at a symposium in April 2020
Participants that complete the program will receive:
- Meteorology sensor station installation and maintenance
- Meteorology data activities to share with students
- Kilo observation & climate education tools
