Beginning Farmer-Rancher Development Program (through August 2019)
(Honoka‘a, North Kohala, South Kona, Ka‘ū, Hawai‘i Island)

November 17, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

- $250

November 17, 2018–August 10, 2019—The Kohala Center’s Beginning Farmer-Rancher Development Program is a nine-month course that includes 188 hours of classroom training, online coursework, on-farm demonstrations and workshops, and field trips, as well as a student-selected assignment. The course begins on Saturday, November 17, 2018 and runs through August 2019. Classes are held every other Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the North Hawai‘i Education and Research Center (mornings) and TKC’s Demonstration farm in Honoka‘a (afternoons), with some sessions taking place in North Kohala, South Kona, and Ka‘ū. Although no previous farming experience is required, preference is given to applicants who have taken steps to become agricultural producers but would benefit from a comprehensive curriculum. The cost of the program is $250; a limited number of scholarships are available. Visit koha.la/farmer for more information and to download an application, or contact Melanie Willich, Ph.D., at mwillich@kohalacenter.org. The deadline to apply is Friday, November 16.
