with support from Hawai‘i Tourism through its Aloha ‘Āina Program
Saturday, April 20—Join us in caring for the ‘āina while deepening your cultural and environmental knowledge of one of West Hawai‘i’s most cherished places.
- Opening Circle: Meet fellow community members and visitors, learn an oli (chant), and set intentions for the morning.
- Park and Bay Tour: Learn about Kahalu‘u’s rich history and how you can help protect the bay’s vibrant, delicate ecosystem.
- Beach Cleanup: Bring the ‘ohana and help us pick up litter and microplastics to keep the bay and beach clean.
- Sunscreen Drop and Swap: Protect Hawai‘i’s coral reefs and marine life! Drop off your chemical-based sunscreens and we’ll dispose of them for you properly. Get a free sample of reef-friendly, mineral-based sunscreen to try out or take home (while supplies last).
Meet at the Kahalu‘u Bay Education Center tents in Kahalu‘u Beach Park by 8:30 a.m. We will provide gloves, buckets, bags, and tools for picking up litter. Please bring your preferred beverage in a reusable container, reef-friendly sun protection (hats, rashguards, mineral-based sunscreens, etc.), and beach and snorkel gear to enjoy the bay!
