KAMUELA, Hawai‘i—(July 31, 2012)—Three Native Hawaiian scholars were recently awarded Mellon-Hawai‘i Fellowships to advance their academic careers. Marie Alohalani Brown, doctoral candidate in English at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UH Mānoa), and Kaipo Perez III, doctoral candidate in zoology with a focus in marine ecology at UH Mānoa, received doctoral fellowships. Katrina-Ann R. Kapā‘anaokalāokeola Oliveira, Ph.D., Geography (2006), UH Mānoa, received a postdoctoral fellowship.

Hawai‘i scholar recognized for postgraduate excellence

KAMUELA, Hawai‘i—August 17, 2011—Hawai‘i scholar Keao NeSmith has been recognized by New Zealand’s University of Waikato for his excellence in postgraduate studies within the School of Māori and Pacific Development. NeSmith, a doctoral candidate in Applied Linguistics at the university in Hamilton, New Zealand, received the school’s 2011 Te Pua Wānanga ki te Ao Postgraduate Excellence Award.

Kahiau Foundation supports Mellon-Hawai‘i Fellowship Program
KAMUELA, Hawai‘i—November 20, 2009—The Kahiau Foundation has announced it will join The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Kamehameha Schools, and The Kohala Center in supporting the Mellon-Hawai‘i Fellowship Program. The gift of $125,000 will be used to support the expansion of the Fellowship Program in the academic year 2010-2011 to support a total of five doctoral and postdoctoral fellows.
