The Foundations of Garden Based Nutrition:
Workshops for Teachers – Session #1 and Session #2
School Garden Educators and Class Teachers who work with school gardens are invited to a series of Nutrition Workshops that will expand their basic foundational knowledge of human nutrition with a special emphasis on tying children’s nutritional needs to
garden-based learning. Vivienne Aronowitz will lead the workshops. Workshop content will be a combination of the presentation of foundational knowledge, hands-on preparation with whole food and fresh fruits and vegetables, and other activities that will help build interesting programs. Each workshop will include a fresh gourmet lunch made by the participants as well as materials to use with students, ideas for incorporating healthy eating into the school garden program, and creative recipes for healthy snacks made with commonly grown garden fruits and vegetables.
Vivienne Aronowitz holds a Masters of Public Health and is a Registered Dietitian and a Certified Diabetes Educator. She is the nutritionist for all Kaiser Permanente Clinics on Hawai‘i Island as well as a nutrition consultant to individuals and other agencies.
