HI-RES 2012

Saturday, October 20, 2012 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at Kealakehe High School

Kealakehe High School students designed HI-RES to demonstrate the work of local students and their exploration in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics(STEM). Through educational robotics, your community student leaders develop the engineering, personal communication, and project management skills that allow them to lead Hawai‘i forward. Please join us in celebrating and cheering on the work, ingenuity, and progress of over 250 students from 20 Hawai‘i Island, O‘ahu, and Maui schools. The event begins with a special opening ceremony and traditional Hawaiian Protocol at 10:00 a.m. and continues with demonstrations, focus groups, and robotics competitions throughout the day.

Throughout the day, we invite you to explore and engage in a variety of activities led by students from across the state. In addition to showcasing various robotics competitions and STEM opportunities, our students will offer several workshops and seminars. For example, we will provide introductory training on the Stanford University Design Thinking Process. International companies such as Google, Apple, Amazon, and IDEO use this process daily to develop creative solutions; we have had a lot of fun utilizing it to not only design robots, but also explore solutions to the world’s toughest problems. We trust you’ll find all of these student workshops—as well as the fierce on the-field competition—useful and entertaining. The event will give you and anyone that comes a chance to drive several robots, build some robots, and participate in a robotics competition. Building on the participation of several hundred students last year, we are hoping for over 1,000 people and already have many community leaders and officials RSVP'd; we hope this event can grow to be the STEM Ironman in coming years.
