Wormville is the mid-scale vermicomposting system at Pa’auilo School. It is a 10′x4′ trough made of two sheets of metal roofing in a wooden frame. The trough is divided lengthwise down the middle by plywood with holes drilled throughout. When the first half of the trough is composted by the worms we will stop feeding and watering that side and start the new side with fresh paper and food.
Students in grades K-8 help maintain the trough which is fed cafeteria waste weekly.
The trough is located under a shade structure between the sports field and pasture and has been in operation for seven months. The finished vermicast will be harvested for use in the school garden and possibly for fund raising for the ag. program.
