Developer Named to Board
The Kohala Center recently announced the appointment of Ian
F. Robertson, principal of the Robertson Company, founder
and sole owner of Sundance Homes of California, to its board
of directors. Robertson, a successful developer, is nationally
known for his work in connecting development with conservation.
"It is more profitable to work with nature than against it,"
said Robertson at a fall 2004 Kohala Center conservation development
seminar for Hawai'i Island planners, architects, and landowners.
Robertson is internationally recognized for his dynamic leadership
of the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-ARC),
whose faculty, board and graduates include such world famous
architects as Ray Kappe, Michael Rotondi, Thomas Mayne, Eric
Moss, and Frank Gehry. As chairman of the board of SCI-ARC,
Robertson led the school's relocation to downtown Los Angeles
and is widely credited as being among the visionary civic
leaders who led the way to the revitalization of downtown
Los Angeles.
Ian Robertson was born and raised in Pa'auilo and was educated
at Pa'auilo School, Punahou School, Yale University and UCLA
School of Law. He resides in Kona, Hawai'i and Santa Monica,
California.
The Kohala Center is a privately funded, not-for-profit academic
institute, based in Waimea.
