Product Testing

4th Grade Students at Ha’aheo

This was a great activity.  This lesson integrated math (fractions and measurement), and the students ran their Glubber through a variety of product tests.  It was a great way for them to see first hand what happens during a chemical change.

Project 3D View & Cell mates

First quarter science is just about done.  I haven’t quite finished all the Project 3D lessons, but the students love the interactive 3d glasses.  There favorite one so far was of the animal and plant cell.  It really stood out on the screen.  We have also loved the game from the Cell Mates lesson.  It really helps the students get a handle for the functions of the cells and what their jobs are.  All the students took the pre-assessment and will take their post assessment this week.  There is content vocabulary in the 3D lessons that is a little advanced for my fourth graders, I think that I would adapt some of the worksheets for next year.  My favorite moment was when we were looking at the pictures for reproduction and one of the students asked what the picture of the sperm and egg was.  As I was thinking of an appropriate response, another student said that it was “evaporation.”  “Yes, that is what that picture is,” responded the teacher. :)

Static Electricity Lesson

I am getting ready to teach “Static Strokes.”  Has anyone else taught this yet?  What did you use for an assessment?
