Brown Environmental Leadership Lab BELL in Rhode Island 2014
– Sustainable Development

In the Brown Environmental Leadership Lab (BELL) Sustainable Development program, select high school students from across the United States will live at Brown University’s Haffenreffer Estate, a 372-acre historic farm adjacent to Narragansett Bay. Participants learn how human demands on the environment often compromise the long-term health of the very ecosystems that keep us alive, and develop the leadership skills needed to tackle pressing environmental problems in their home communities. Students also learn about policies, practices, and emerging technologies that can help reduce humankind’s ecological impact. Mentoring is provided by Brown faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students.

The Kohala Center and Brown University are offering two full-tuition scholarships for qualified Hawai‘i Island students to participate in BELL Sustainable Development. Scholarship recipients must cover their own travel costs.

The scholarship application deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2014.
