Water Quality and Fish Populations: Kahalu‘u and Kuki‘o
Students devised a study to determine how water quality affects marine life in Kahalu‘u Bay and Kukio Bay. The study focused specifically on whether non-point source pollution affects fish population counts. Components of this study included water quality sampling for ammonia, pH, salinity, temperature, phosphate, nitrate, and oxygen; snorkel surveys to assess fish species and abundance; and documentation of their study using GPS coordinates and their own firsthand observations at each sampling location.
