Class Project: Tide Pool Survey Project
Students monitored four tide pools in West Hawai‘i: two at Keahole Point, one at the Old Kona Airport (which is a Marine Life Conservation District or MLCD), and one at Kahalu‘u Bay. Data was collected on the number of different species or organisms present and was analyzed to determine if the protection offered at the MLCD affects the relative health of these tide pools. They also looked at whether there was a connection between water quality and the number and species of organisms present at each tide pool. Data collected on organisms is being shared with UH Sea Grant.
